Pontiac 1957, Bonneville Convertible VB 59
Well, as the song says, "Keep the ball rollin". FM has certainly done that with the issue of the dramatic 1957 Pontiac Bonneville. This model represents the very FIRST 50’s Pontiac ever done by either Mint in a rendition chock-full of outstanding detail. To begin with, the car, finished in Ivory with Red and Black & White upholstery executed in the famous "off the shoulder" motif Pontiac was showing that year. The seat backs flip forward in the "new FM" tradition and, if you look closely, you'll see a set of genuine Pontiac accessory "carpet savers" on floor!. The Fuel Injected V8 is represented faithfully down to the last spark plug wire and heater hose. The engine block is Pontiac Blue with everything else in Black; it's hard to see all the detail, but that's exactly the way the REAL engine compartment appeared. The trunk is outfitted with proper spare & jack on a gray carpeted floor, again accurate and nice. The build quality is tops as we are now coming to demand from FM on a regular basis. It's evident with each new issue that FM is truly addressing the issues of fidelity and quality control in earnest. Doors, hood and trunk fit and operate easily and snugly, just the way we expect on a replica in this price range. Chrome is flawless as is nearly all fit and finish. There was a "gap" problem in the doors due to the new style hinges on this car that they experimented with on early production models. This was a good idea, but the gap was not acceptable and the idea was abandoned. The gap is now gone, and the model sports the usual dog-leg hinges. In short, this PONTIAC BONNEVILLE is a keeper and deserves an honored space on our respective shelves! Kudos to FM for issuing a really desirable NON-CHEVY and to their design and engineering staff for bringing this fine and important automotive design to market!
